Trusting Your Intuition & Understanding Your Gut Instinct

When I invited spiritual coach and professional intuitive Bev Martin of BevMartin.com to be my guest on the Balanced Living for Busy Professional Show she pointed out strategies for embracing your intuition and how you can bring out your own brilliance. (Listen to the full podcast here.) Regardless of whether you think of intuition as your inner voice, your gut instinct, or a common-sense logic, as an analytical person may refer to it, we each have this inside. The label you put on it isn’t as important as what you do with it…and if you heed it.

Concept of Intuition

Intuition is what you know or consider likely from instinctive feeling rather than conscious reasoning. This is part of you. This is something you may have been ignoring but should pay attention to. Intuition plays a huge part of your everyday life and should be embraced. Things like having a funny feeling about not travelling a particular route then later learning that road construction was taking place and would have delayed your travels by 45 minutes. Incidents that you feel but don’t have a conscious reasoning why you feel these things are what make up intuition. When these feelings surface always acknowledge them and then listen fully to what they are saying to you.

Honing Your Natural Instincts

While you may reach out to a professional intuitive or coach to aid you in understanding the things you know, this is a skill you can learn and do yourself. It is a matter of listening to your own self, recognizing the signals, and untangling the messages you know deep in your soul. Until you develop this level of listening skill feel free to reach out to me for a 1:1 consulting session where we can untangle the messages together and help you plot a way through developing your own deep listening.

Listening deeply to what you already know to be true is grounding. It is affirming. It will aid you in being crystal clear in how you should move forward.

If something really needs to come through to us our intuition will crank up the volume so it’s unavoidable. You will begin noticing things that have always been around but see them more fully in ways that affirm the intention you’ve set as your goal.

Consider this: Have you ever noticed when something happens to call attention to a particular thing in your life and then you begin to notice this area of attention more frequently or more boldly? For instance, in healthy lifestyle changes you may decide to start being intentional with how you eat and grocery shop, choosing plant-based options over processed foods. Once you set this intention your mindset picks up on these desires and begins to hone in on places you can dine that cater to plant-based menu options. You will naturally gravitate to browsing foodie blogs for new recipes. You realize eating this way is much easier than you first thought because numerous restaurants are now offering healthy menu options. You will notice eating plant-based is more than eating salads for every meal. You will find Pinterest boards filled with plant-based recipes and may even discover existing friends who observe this lifestyle choice – in full or in part. It occurs to you how business-related travelling won’t be as difficult because there are ways to stay healthy while travelling on the road. These are all things that you were peripherally aware of but didn’t mean too much before the volume was turned up.

Fine-tuning Your Choices & Daily Living

By voicing your intention your instinctive side will zero in on what you want. You will find yourself being pulled towards what you want. People will cross your path who share these common interests and goals – perhaps forming a support circle of like-minded individuals.

To get the ball rolling around fine-tuning your choices and daily living follow these steps:

Step 1: Dream about it. Imagine the kind of future you would like to inhabit.

Step 2: Think big and then think even bigger. Don’t limit yourself to your current skills but push a bit beyond to what you can fully become.

Step 3: Consider how you can work toward achieving this dream. What is needed? How would the pieces fit together? How can you make this happen? [Our imagination helps us think about things that are big enough or great enough or wonderful enough that engage us. The logical side determines how this can be achieved and what needs to happen to move towards achieving the dream.]

Step 4: Start intentionally acting on the hows and whats to construct the pieces of your dream.

Step 5: Allow the motivation of your dream to spur you towards action and pull you forward. When you can
envision what you want and what it will take to achieve it, you will naturally start moving in that direction. The magnetism of this realization will work with your gut instincts.

You truly can manifest your future by working with your intuition. You may surprise yourself when you realize your unconscious self has been moving you in a direction closer to your dreams and goals by bringing individuals into your life and building skillsets all along the way. It’s not until something happens in your life that brings some kind of awareness and you look back to see the path you’ve been travelling up to now. Your insight, wisdom, and your intuition have been helping you get clear and create the future you desire.
