People like stuff. We tend to hold onto it year after year. We save it. We stock up on things we don’t know what to do with. The reasons for holding on so tightly to stuff can range from the possessions holding precious memories to the mementos reminding us of parents, grandparents, past loves, or childhood. When the sentiment attached to these precious items becomes involved it seems out of the question to consider parting with even one piece.
You are probably familiar with the saying, “You have to get rid of the old to make way for the new.” There is a lot of truth behind this saying. Whenever you are feeling stuck or stagnant in your life give spring cleaning a try. Throw out some stuff. Say goodbye to your past and make room to welcome the new energy surrounding your happy, healthy future.
3 Ways to Usher in New Energy
- Preparing for good mental and physical health energy. You actually have two houses that need to be cleaned – your physical home and your physical body. Just as we accumulate stuff in the form of outgrown clothes, magazines, rusty bicycles, tools, and random keepsakes, your body accumulates old food residues and toxins that need to be cleaned out.
- Preparing for a clean body energy. To spring clean your body, give it a break from rich and complicated foods by either cleansing or fasting for a short period of time. Cleansing means to pare down your food to just simple fruits and vegetables. Drink lots of water. Reach for foods made with whole grains. Fasting means limiting most foods and drinking lots of water, fresh vegetables, whole grains, fruit, and teas. Without much energy going toward digestion, more energy is available for the rest of your body and mind. Cleansing and fasting can sharpen your concentration, help you gain insight, and promote spiritual awareness. It can also bring improved immune function and better digestion.
- Preparing for a clean heart. With a newly cleaned mind, body, and home it is time to clean your heart and spirit. Throw away negative thoughts and habits you’ve been harboring that no longer serve you. A clean, open heart will allow you to receive all the good that awaits you each day. If your heart and mind are cluttered, there is no room for life’s gifts and surprises to enter.
